A FINE GENTLEMAN, THAT MIKE.

When Mike McCarthy, my next door neighbor for 14 years, hit the big one double oh, I looked for a way to celebrate the health and good spirits of my old friend. So while his family commemorated the event with a surprise party at the Irish Cultural Center, I chose to acknowledge Mike's achievement with this profile that appeared in the local community newspaper, The Noe Valley Voice.

Mike passed away a year later, and at the church, the family had this article etched in brass and displayed on a plaque next to the casket.
