IT WAS LIKE HITTING A FLY WITH A SLINGSHOT
Consider the problems. After traveling over 1.2 million miles, Gemini 9 had to decelerate from orbital to reentry speed with no further guidance and hit a target over 8,000 miles away.
As it turned out, the trajectory was so perfect that the spacecraft splashed down .38 nautical miles west of the aircraft carrier Wasp...close enough that the frog men reached the bobbing capsule while it was still hot to the touch.
We like this story because it demonstrates what can be accomplished when people work well together. Responsiveness is an integral part of our corporate philosophy.
